About Us

Kelley and Michael have been together for almost 30 years, and in that time they’ve done what most regular couples do: settle down and get married, take out a mortgage, raise a family and do the best they can.

But the kids have grown and gone and the house is almost paid off. Now what? Retirement is still over fifteen years away.

Says who?

As the saying goes, if the mountain will not come to Mohammed, then Mohammed must go to the mountain. If you don’t want to sit and wait for retirement, then make it happen now!

And that’s what they plan to do. After finishing up a few final renovations, the house will be listed for sale. Once the sale has been finalized, a portion of the funds will be tucked aside for a nest egg, and the rest will be used for living expenses.

But no rent or static home for these two. After downsizing as much as possible, they’re going to load the essentials and their beloved motorcycle into the back of their converted cargo camper and hit the road. Living full time on the move, they have an extensive list of things and events they have always wanted to see, and they don’t plan on sitting still again until they’ve seen them all.

Stay tuned for the continuing saga…

We’d love to hear from you!

  1. Kelly and Mike – Congratulations !
What an amazing journey you have embarked upon. I absolutely love your posts – especially your quick wit and honesty ! My husband Steve and I and our two year old husky named Henry have just recently become full-time RVers ….home base is Toronto, ON and at the moment we are in Milton, ON with our brand new fifth wheel just getting our feet wet and planning the next move. ( Kingston, Montreal, the Maritimes and then down to Maine ). The new year will bring Florida , Arizona and California. To say we are excited is an understatement.
We have known one another since high school and although we never dated, we kept in touch and after our respective marriages ended, we found ourselves together and pursuing the dream of wandering. Don’t get me wrong, it has been a huge adjustment to sell most of our belongings and houses and downsize to what can be carried in the fifth wheel and truck, but the feeling of pure freedom and being able to live this life is indeed a blessing I don’t take for granted. We are fortunate .
Like you we have run into our share of “well-meaning” negativity and raised eyebrows…..but I believe it may be more of the green-eyed monster rearing its head than actual negative thoughts.
    Sorry to babble on …..

Happy trails you two. Hoping to meet down the road sometime….

    1. Thanks so much for your kind words Elizabeth! After feeling a bit like “odd ducks”, it’s encouraging to find there are so many people out there with the same mindset as us. Since everything hinges on the sale of the house, we’re still a little ways from actually hitting the road. But everyday is getting a little bit closer, so I’m trying very hard to be patient. Failing miserably, but trying very hard, lol.
You and Steve sound very much like Mike and myself. It’s so much better when you get to do these amazing things with your best friend, isn’t it? And I like your thoughts on the green-eyed monster. It never occurred to me to look at it from that point of view. It makes it so much easier not to take it personally, well-meaning or not.
We plan on wintering in the Arizona/California areas as well, once we’re able to get started. Perhaps we’ll meet up somewhere. In the meantime, when you get to the Maritimes, if you’re close to Miramichi (northern NB), please stop by and look us up. We’d love the chance to meet you both (and Henry, of course!)
      Safe travels and have fun!!

  2. Hi Kelley and Michael,
Just met you through CamperKevin’s utube blog. Your house was really nice and it must have been hard to let it go. I do envy you both the freedom you gave now. Hope to keep in touch with you. Happy trails and safe travels.
